A quick 15 min charcoal study for a painting i'm working on. After many many years, not since school really, I picked up willow charcoal again. I've found it especially useful in art class doing life work.
I normally steer clear of this stuff as I get into such mess, but i'm finding how invaluable it can be. A bit like working with ink, with anything other than a pen, you loose a little control, you can't fiddle. I've found this way I experiment more. Working on this gave me other ideas for the bg as well. You really have a freedom with this stuff.

i like what you've done with this. i can't say i have stayed clear of charcoal as i really have never tried it. my drawing repertoire is so meager! from what you say it sounds like a great way to experiment and still be able to change. i also like the background idea as i do struggle with what to do most of the time. thanks for posting this as it has given me some good ideas. are you going to paint this as well?

Thanks so much Bob...You really should give it a try..I find it great for quick sketches, I also find I don't fuss with it... ending up with usually a better sketch as well....
