Petunias.....

This is a small sketch, done with no drawing, of Petunias form my garden.

I find these small sketches help to start off a days painting before going onto paint a larger piece.

By using flowers as your subject, there is less to worry about in getting proportions right, so leaves you to enjoy the actual painting process more, learning different techniques, and how colours will work together on a larger piece. Simly having fun.

I also find very often that with a mount & small frame, a collection of these small sketches look wonderful put together on a wall.

Thanks Vicki for stopping by, it's amazing how you can use them, and to think I used to throw them away..

Hi Stephie

The petunias are absolutely lovely. The softness of the colors and whites lend a certain peace to the flowers...so full of life, yet at peace with themselves. They just inspired a small verse in mind...

Lovely pink and white at ease
So full of life, but yet at peace
That they say, to pass the test
Do your best and leave the rest!

Hope its okay for this to be a part of your blog post. :)

Hi Cindi.. Haven't painted much lately but hopefully will get some time this week. Hope you are managing to paint too...

It really is a great way to learn and relax at the same time. I often just pick one flower, just turning it for different angles..

Very often only part of a subject makes for a good composition, you needn't always fill the whole page.

Such beautiful softness. I particularly love the center of the blue one and of course your luscious greens! Have always loved your greens!
